more sowing

I planted several more trays of seeds today. Here's the list.

My lights have some trouble. They were shorting when we plugged them all in. We switched bulbs and sockets, with and without timer. It seems the problem is the wall socket. I can plug in 3 shelves, but not 4 on the circuit. Right now I only need 3 shelves. I'm sure we'll get a solution soon.

you plant so many different varieties of the same veggie...how many seeds do you plant of each and how many seedlings of each do you pot up and grow on...do you pot up all that germinate???

I hate to throw out a seedling. Yes, I usually transplant all the tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, and others that need bigger pots before they can go into the garden. Invariably I have too many. I grow all of the plants for my mother's garden too so I squeeze them into her garden or one of my two gardens. I give them away to friends. I leave a boxful at the front of my community garden and they go fast. Last year, I left a tableful of seedlings by the street at my house and they all disappeared. Last year I had one tray of Brassicas that I didn't have time or space for and they got composted :-(

For plants like cabbages, I plant 2 or 3 seeds of each in one small pot. I can never have enough onions, but with many varieties I wanted to try this year, I planted 2 or 3 small pots of each, probably 20 seedlings per pot. We use a lot of onions. 40 per person are recommended, and we use a lot for 3 people, plus my mom and a friend who always wants several pots of the Pontiacs.

The peppers have 4 or 5 seeds in one pot of each variety. I have lots of marigold, ageratum, and arugula.
