today's harvest

harvest 028
harvest 032 harvest 031

My Chinese pole beans are ready! These are my favorite bean. Big and lumpy - a green and white color mix. They are crisp and tender even when they grow very big.

A friend gave me some seeds. I've grown them for three years now and have to make sure to save a handful of beans to plant next year.

I've also never tried Chinese pole beans! That is good that after 3 years, that seed has been grown and I think you would be very happy for that.

Yummo. My, your produce is brilliant, our soil has been so dry. We had heavy rain Saturday evening but it may too little too late for some of our veggies this year. Have been eating squash and courgettes, summer cabbage, cauliflower, cucumbers, lettuce but no BEANS and they are my favourite. I wonder if I can get Chinese Pole Beans here. Enjoy your delicious harvest.

How do you eat those beans? Are you shelling them or eating the pod as well? I'm somewhat new to gardening and when my beans get that plump i'm been throwing them in the compost because they seem so tough and stringy. Am I missing something?

Any other bean I've tried is not edible this plump. These are delicious at any size. They are amazing. They are "string beans", so I remove the string and chop. Then I boil 4 minutes and they are yummy. Add butter salt and pepper. Or nice with a sauce: Chinese Spicy Green Beans - one of my favorite recipes, though I usually make more sauce than it says.
